A special ceremony in honor of Veterans Day. We will personally recognize the vets that are in attendance. Last year we had over 100 veterans in the gym to be honored. This year we hope to get even more! We will read the names of each veteran in attendance, give them a flower, and they will be saluted by a PHS student who has committed to Armed Forces service.
Included in this year's ceremony will be a special presentation by Jim Kell. "A Place Setting For One, A Table For All" is a tribute to POW-MIA.
Additionally, this year we are making a special call to get more women veterans to attend this ceremony. Our special theme for this year is "Women and Military Service." Portage High School students will re-enact a woman's role in the military throughout the years.
At the end of the ceremony, the Honor and Color Guard of the VFW and American Legion perform military honors. It is a very powerful simulation! After the flag has been folded, the VFW and American Legion presents it to a person who serves the Portage community above and beyond what a normal citizen would do.
