DESCRIPTION:Agency House to Host "Silver Man" Book Launch\n\nFor the second time in as many years\, the Wisconsin Historical Society Press has released a book about Portage's Historic Indian Agency House. To celebrate the achievement\, the Agency House will host an official book launch party on the opening day of their 2016 season   Sunday\, May 15   from 10am until 4pm. \n\n \n\nAuthor Pete Shrake of Baraboo will speak at 1pm\, and a book signing will follow. Free cake and lemonade will be available.  "The Silver Man" discusses the life and times of Indian Agent John Kinzie from the War of 1812 and the monopoly of the American Fur Company\, to the Black Hawk War and the focused removal of thousands of Ho-Chunk people from their native lands. His life story "gives us a front-row seat to a pivotal time in the history of the American Midwest." The book comes on the heels of "Juliette Kinzie   Frontier Storyteller\," a Badger Biographies  Series publication which focused on Mrs. Kinzie.\n\n \n\nThe book was made possible with support from the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA) in the State of Wisconsin\, the non-profit organization that owns and operates the Historic Indian Agency House.
