SUMMARY:Memorial Day Program Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Memorial Day Program with the Portage VFW Post #1707 at Blue Star Park at 11am. \n\nThe public is encouraged and invited to attend. There will be no parade this year.\n\nThe ceremony will be hosted by the Portage VFW along with the Portage American Legion and Portage Elks.\n\n \n\nAfter the ceremony the VFW will be hosting an open house and free community meal open to the public.  No fee for attending the meal\, although donations are greatly appreciated.\n\n\n\nThis event follows a few notable contributions the week prior in honor of our Veterans:\n\n\n\n- On Sunday\, May 21\, 2023 a group of VFW members led by Dave Duvall placed flags on Veterans graves at Oak Grove Cemetery.\n\n \n\n- On Monday\, May 22\, 2023 a group of American Legion members led by Dean Simonson and assisted by students from St. John's School placed flags on Veteran's graves at Silver Lake and St. Mary's Cemeteries.\n\n \n\n- On Saturday\, May 27\, 2023 the VFW will be set up the mock cemetery across from Blue Star Park.\n\n\n\nMEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY\n\n  WELCOME\n\n  NATIONAL ANTHEM - Performed by Portage High School Band\n\n  OPENING PRAYER - Chaplain Chris Schutz\n\n  EXPLANATION OF MEMORIAL DAY\n\n  MOMENT OF SILENCE\n\n  INTRODUCTION OF GOLD STAR FAMILIES - Dean Simonson\n\n  READING OF NAMES\n\n  PRESENTATION OF WREATHS\n\n  PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN - Performed by Portage High School Band\n\n  BENEDICTION - Chaplain Chris Schutz\n\n  21 GUN SALUTE - Honor Guard\n\n  TAPS
