DESCRIPTION:Agency House Hosts "Historic Handiwork" Children's Workshop Contact: Destinee Udelhoven\, Executive Director\, Historic Indian Agency House Telephone: 608-742-6362 The Historic Indian Agency House of Portage will host a session of their popular Hands-On History youth clinics on Saturday\, July 17th from 2 to 4PM. The event\, entitled "Historic Handiwork: Children's Embroidery Workshop and Tea Party\," is centered on the importance of sewing in the 19th century. Participants will start the day with a tour of the Indian Agency House museum\, where they will be shown a wide variety of needlework and hand sewn artifacts from the 1830s. They will practice different stitching techniques before creating their own embroidered handkerchief to take home. The afternoon will wrap up with a relaxing and tasty tea party\, where weary fingers will get the rest they deserve. This workshop is recommended for ages 8 to 12 years\, although younger children are welcome with an adult companion. (Calling all Grandmas!!) The cost is $10 per child\, and includes the guided museum tour\, all sewing materials and the tea party. Reservations are recommended (a maximum of 20 participants will be permitted)\, but not required. This workshop fulfills select requirements for two Girl Scout badges\, the "Yarn and Fabric Arts" and "Sew Simple" badges. In addition\, all Girl Scout participants will receive a "Tea Party" fun patch at the close of the session. The Historic Indian Agency House is open May 15 to October 15 daily\, and hosts many educational programming opportunities and special events throughout the year. Call Director Destinee Udelhoven at 608-742-6362 with any questions or to place reservations for the "Historic Handiwork" workshop. Click here for a flyer on this event.
